Greenwich High Teacher To Receive CT Humanitarian Award

The teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages is being recognized for her work with recent immigrants.

Alice Jean DiVincenzo, a Greenwich High School (GHS) teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), has been selected to receive the 2015 Connecticut Education Association’s (CEA) Humanitarian Award for Leadership in Recent Immigrant Educational Community Relationships.

An educator for 40 years, with more than 30 of them with the Greenwich Public Schools (GPS), DiVincenzo has been tapped to receive the honor given to an individual who has “demonstrated leadership in resolving social and educational problems as they relate to recent immigrants.”

Eligibility for the award requires individuals to have developed and/or implemented a school-wide and/or community-wide program that provides relief for recently arrived immigrants, secures funds and sources to provide education, increases public awareness and protects and advances the civil and human rights of the recent immigrants, and develops ESL instructional materials, multimedia programs, and/or curriculum. A Greenwich High School colleague nominated DiVincenzo.
