Greenwich HS Track Team Places In Top 10 At FCIAC Meet
Several Greenwich athletes achieved personal bests in their respective events during the meet.

The following Greenwich High School Track Team round up from Monday's FCIAC meet is by Coach Jeff Klein:
Scoring in 10 different events, the team placed 10th overall with 38 points yesterday at the FCIAC meet. The boys represtented GHS well, as we were competitive with all but the top two teams in the league. There were several personal bests(PB), some new qualifiers and a number of our athletes earned All FCIAC honors.
Our top finisher on the day was Oliver Fulton, who ran a strong race from start to finish to place 2nd in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. His time of 41.04 seconds was a PB and has him currently ranked 8th in the state. Fulton earned first team All FCIAC honors with this outstanding effort.

Picking up thirds for the team were Own Bianchi in the triple jump and the 4 X 400 relay team. Bianchi had his second longest jump ever leaping 42 feet 9 inches, finishing behind the top two triple jumpers in the state. Bianchi is currently ranked 10th in the event in CT. In the final race of the day on the track the foursome of Charlie Ducret, Fulton, George Karakadas and Zane Nye ran a terrific 4 X 400 relay as they ran the team's fastest time in the event this year by more than 4 seconds. Ducret led off with a very fast 51.8 leg as he put the Cardinals in the early lead. The next 3 all ran solid 52 legs as the team clocked in at 3:29, the fourth fastest time in Class LL this spring. In the 4 X 100 relay, Fulton, Nye, and Ducret teamed up with Ryan Raybuck as they earned a fourth place finish in the event. Their time of 44.55 was the team's fastest of the year in this event. They currently have the 10th fastest time in Class LL. By finishing 3rd or 4th all of these athletes earned 2nd team All FCIAC status.
The team had two 6th place finishes in the meet. Nye ran a solid 100 meter race in the preliminaries as he qualified into the finals with the second fastest time. He ran well in the finals in a very close race as he ended up in 6th place. He was the only freshman to reach the final, an impressive initial FCIAC championship result for Nye. In the first throwing event of the day, Paul Agresta had a big toss in the javelin with his best ever throw of 148 feet. That placed him 6th overall and contributed 3 points to the team effort. Nye and Agresta both earned Honorable Mention All FCIAC with their results. Nye is currently ranked 7th in Class LL while Agresta is 14th.

The team's other points came from two 7th place and three 8th place finishes. In the discus, Ben Frey reached the finals as he was beaten out for a medal by a narrow 4 inches. Ducret finished 7th in the 200 meter race as he finished in 23.55 seconds. Tyler Blizzard earned a pair of 8th place finishes. In the javelin he had a PB thorw of 143 feet 11 inches as he (and Agresta) qualified for the LL meet. He came back in the shot put to also take 8th with a throw of 41 feet 4 inches. It was nice to see our throwers come through at the meet as we earned points in all three throwing events! Our final team point came from the 800 meter effort of Karakadas as he stayed in contention for much of the race before ending up in 8th. Karakadas is currently ranked 4th in Class LL with a shot to place well at next week's State meet.
We had a number of other very good efforts on the day that did not score. Anthony Hill ran well in the 100 High hurdles, just missing the finals as he placed 9th. He also took on the 300 hurdles where he had a PB time of 46.21. Hill also competed in the triple jump where he took at 11th place with another PB. The 4 X 800 relay team of Akash Molekudy, Alex Kosyakov, Thomas Rouffiac, and Kevin Collins just missed scoring as they placed 9th in their race. Ryan Raybuck had a solid day of sprinting as in addition to the 4 X 100 relay he placed 13th in the 100 and 15th in the 200 meters. Our 3200 meter runners ran well on a relatively warm day, as they attempted to qualify for the State LL meet. Despite strong efforts, they fell a little short as Alexander Bein and Aidan Brock finished in 16th and 19th places with times of 10:16 and 10:19respectively.
In the field, Bianchi just missed the finals by 2 inches as he ended up 10th in the long jump. Adam Sturza also earned a 10th place as he competed in the triple jump. He went out on a high note as his jump of 38 feet 4 inches was a PB. Jack Carey finished in 17th in the shot put while Blizzard tossed the discus 105 feet to take 11th in the event. In the javelin, Nevan Burke just missed a PB as he finished in 13th throwing 127 feet. Joe Kraninger was our fourth trhower in the javelin as he was 17th reaching 125 feet.
All in all it was a good day in New Haven for GHS track. Congratulations to all of our athletes that competed and represented the team well at the league championship meet.
