GREENWICH, CT — Aquarion Water Company announced on Thursday the sale of eight acres of company-owned land on Lake Avenue in Greenwich to the Greenwich Land Trust (GLT).

Last year, Aquarion sold 72 acres of land, now known as the Converse Brook Preserve, to the GLT and the Town of Greenwich.

The now 80 acres are not located within an aquifer protection area or any public water supply watershed and is not needed by Aquarion to provide water service.

"Greenwich Land Trust is extremely grateful to have the opportunity to conserve, protect and care for this beautiful property in perpetuity, " said GLT Executive Director Will Kies in a news release. A conservation easement on the property allows the land to be protected.

"This addition to our Converse Brook Preserve will provide safe public access to the preserve while conserving important upland habitats," Kies added.

The land just off Lake Avenue remained untouched for years. It will be maintained as a natural area with public access for activities such as birding, nature walks and hiking.

"This is welcome news that we're preserving more open space to add to our over 800 acres already," First Selectman Fred Camillo told Patch Thursday.

Aquarion President Donald Morrissey said the utility company is excited to partner with the GLT once again to support their mission of preserving open space.

"The additional acreage will be a resource that the Land Trust can preserve for future generations," Morrissey said in a news release.
