Greenwich Man Receives 8-Year Jail Sentence for Attack on Wife

The suspect had pleaded guilty to a attempted murder charge following the baseball bat attack on his wife.

Michael DeMaio, the Greenwich resident who was arrested on attempted murder and assault charges for the near-fatal baseball bat beating of his ex-wife, was sentenced to eight years in jail Wednesday.

DeMaio received as 20-year sentence that was suspended after eight years and must serve five years probation, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website. DeMaio pleaded guilty to criminal attempt at murder on Jan. 5 in connection with the Sept. 10, 2013 attack in the Round Hill Road mansion he shared with his then-wife Diane.

Greenwich Police were summoned to the home by Diane DeMaio’s mother who was at the home during the attack. At the time, Diane DeMaio was seeking a divorce from her husband.

Michael DeMaio apologized to his ex-wife and wished her a speedy recovery during the sentencing proceeding at state Superior Court in Stamford, according to The Advocate.
