Greenwich To Mark 20th Anniversary of Sept. 11 Attacks
Greenwich will hold several ceremonies for the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

GREENWICH, CT — The Town of Greenwich will mark the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with several ceremonies next week.
Glenville
On Sept. 10 at 6 p.m., the Glenville Volunteer Fire Department will hold a memorial service outside at 266 Glenville Rd. A piece of steel from the World Trade Center sits outside of the department to serve as a reminder of that day and all those who were lost. Thirty-three people with ties to Greenwich died in the attacks.
Town officials are expected to attend, and all are invited.

Cos Cob
On Sept. 11, another ceremony will be held at the Cos Cob 9/11 Memorial in Cos Cob Park.
The ceremony will begin with the ringing of a bell at 8:46 a.m., the time when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Another bell will ring at 9:03 a.m., when United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the south tower. Bells will ring at 9:37 a.m. to mark the moment the Pentagon was attacked; 10:03 a.m. for when United Flight 93 crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pa.; and at 10:28 a.m. when the south tower collapsed.

Pamela Farr, the leader of the local Red Cross chapter during 9/11, will be the keynote speaker. Families of victims, members of the military, elected officials, and first responders are expected to attend. The names of the 33 people from Greenwich who died will be read as well.
Social distancing guidelines and COVID-19 protocols will be in place. All are invited.
Old Greenwich
Additionally on Sept. 11, Pastor Patrick Collins of the First Congregational Church of Greenwich located at 108 Sound Beach Ave. will host an outdoor 9/11 prayer service memorial on the front lawn. The 30-minute service will include prayer, music, a moment of silence and words from Collins.
A special donation of a flowering tree which was donated by Gro Pro Landscaping will also be made in memory of the Greenwich residents who lost their lives. All are invited.
