Greenwich Memorial Day 2016 Parades and Services

There will be a number of events throughout Memorial Day weekend in many parts of Greenwich.

GREENWICH, CT- Various organizations around town will host a number of events commemorating Memorial Day throughout the weekend.

Here are some of the events planned for the 2016 Memorial Day Weekend:

  • American Legion Post 29 and other veterans and service organizations will place American flags on the graves of veterans at cemeteries around town.
  • Cos Cob VFW Post 8 Memorial Day service at the intersection of Strickland and River roads in Cos Cob at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 28.
  • Byram Veterans Association Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at 2 P.M., Sunday, May 29.
  • Glenville Volunteer Fire Department Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service(starts on Glenville Street at Walker Court, to the Veterans Memorial next to the Fire House) at 5 P.M., Sunday, May 29.
  • Memorial Day Dock Service at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club at 8 A.M., Monday, May 30.
  • Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Day Parade (starts on Sound Beach Avenue at Shore Acre Drive), followed by Binney Park Services in Old Greenwich at 10 A.M., Monday, May 30.

Various veteran organizations in town are working to form the Greenwich Veterans Council to become a clearinghouse of information for veterans. It will seek to inform veterans of available employment, health and counseling services.

“The Town of Greenwich stands ready to provide assistance and support to the men and women in Town in appreciation for their dedication and service to our Country," First Selectman Peter Tesei said. "Recognition of their collective efforts to defend our Nation shouldn’t be limited to one or two holidays but rather every day, throughout the year.”
