3 DUI Arrests, 20 Crashes Investigated by Greenwich Police

Greenwich Police said they stopped over 100 cars for motor vehicle violations during the long 4th of July holiday weekend.

GREENWICH, CT — While many were out enjoying cookouts and fireworks during the long holiday weekend, Greenwich Police were out protecting the community. Lieutenant John Slusarz said officers stopped 126 cars for motor vehicle violations, arrested three people for driving under the influence and investigated 20 motor vehicle crashes between July 3 and 7.

No serious injuries or fatalities were reported. Enforcement was also up over last year's Fourth of July holiday weekend, during which officers stopped 102 vehicles for various violations and made no DUI arrests, Slusarz said.

"Impaired driving continues to be a persistent problem on America's roads," Slusarz said in a statement. "Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol severely impairs a driver's abilities and reaction times, often leading to a disastrous situation."
