Greenwich Police Department Issues Impaired Driving PSA

There will be an extra police presence on the roads in town and throughout the state over Thanksgiving and the holiday season, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — Ahead of the busy holiday season, the Greenwich Police Department has issued a Public Service Announcement about impaired driving.

"The Greenwich Police Department hopes everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday and would like to remind people that there are other options for getting around and not to drive impaired. Also, that there will be extra police presence on the roads in Greenwich and throughout the state for Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season thanks to a state of CT grant to combat impaired driving," Greenwich police said Wednesday.

  • One-hundred and ninety people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period in 2021.
  • During the 2021 Thanksgiving holiday period, more than four times as many drivers involved in fatal crashes were alcohol-impaired during nighttime hours than during the day.
  • In 2021 there were 13,384 fatalities in alcohol-impaired motor vehicle traffic crashes, accounting for 31 percent of all traffic fatalities in the United States that year.
