Greenwich Police: Driver Found Asleep at the Wheel Is Charged with DUI
A police officer checked on why a motorist didn't start driving when a traffic light turned green.
A 60-year-old town resident was arrested on a driving under the influence charge after Greenwich Police say an officer found him asleep at the wheel of his car at the intersection of Horseneck Lane and Arch Street at 2:30 in the morning.
According to a police report, an officer was in traffic behind the car that didn’t move forward when the traffic light turned green on May 2. The driver was described as “unresponsive to audible horns from waiting traffic,” according to the report.
The officer, who was directly behind the car, went to check on the driver. The officer “observed the operator asleep at the wheel. After waking him” the driver was found to have “glassy red eyes, slurred speech” and a “strong, distinct odor of alcohol on his person and breath,” according to the report.

Stanley J. O’Connor, of 333 Valley Rd., Cos Cob, also was ticketed for failure to obey a control signal. He was released after posting $220 bond. O’Connor is scheduled to appear May 18 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
