Greenwich Robbery Suspect Continues To Elude Police

The suspect engaged police in a pursuit on I-95, April 28, before allegedly stealing a car and heading toward Pennsylvania. See Video.

GREENWICH, CT — The search for the Greenwich bank robbery suspect from Friday night is continuing Monday, May 1, as the man has thus far successfully eluded police in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

According to Greenwich Police Lt. David Nemecek, detectives are working on the case and are in contact with authorities in Pennsylvania.

"The Range Rover the suspect stole, which was recovered, is being processed [for evidence]," said Nemecek on Monday.

Police say the suspect eluded capture by the Pennsylvania State Police around 2 a.m. Saturday morning near Harrisburg. Greenwich police subsequently released a surveillance photo of the suspect Saturday afternoon.

The case all began Friday night when, after robbing a Chase Bank in Greenwich, the suspect engaged Greenwich Police in a pursuit on Interstate-95 before he bailed out on I-95 and ran across the highway, police said Friday. Police then pursued him on foot.

The suspect stole a car in Port Chester, N.Y. Friday night, according to police. He engaged police in a pursuit late Friday night into Pennsylvania.

Greenwich police stressed that no local officers ever left the state. Pennsylvania State Police weren't able to capture the suspect but they are the ones who recovered the stolen Range Rover, police said. The suspect allegedly robbed two banks in two days, police have said. He is also suspected of robbing a gas station in Greenwich.

Prior to that, Greenwich police believes the suspect stole a license plate in Suffolk County, NY, on April 18. See the video below.

"This crime occurred before he came to Greenwich to rob both the Citgo Station and the Chase bank between April 24 and April 28.
