Greenwich Remains Divided on School Start Time Change

The Board of Education has been presented with three options by the superintendent.

GREENWICH, CT- The Board of Education is scheduled to vote Tuesdayon whether changes should be made to public school start times.

Many parents and students support later start times at the high school to align with American Academy of Pediatric recommendations to start secondary schools no earlier than 8:30 a.m., according to Greenwich Time.

But some parents of younger students and working parents aren't in favor of later start times.

The proposal that got the most support in an April survey would start elementary schools at 8:45 a.m., the middle school at 8:15 a.m. and the high school at 8 a.m.

Another proposal would start the high school start time at 8:15 a.m., middle schools at 7:45 a.m. and elementary at 9 a.m. 

The other option being considered would start schools at 8:30, 7:45 and 9 a.m. respectively.
