Greenwich's Cam Atkinson made his professional hockey debut a memorable one.
A few days after signing a two-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Boston College product scored the winning goal in his first game with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.

He scored with 4:52 left in the third period of Friday's game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to snap a tie and lift the Falcons to a 3-2 victory.
Atkinson, who joined Springfield after scoring 31 goals as a junior at Boston College, took a pass from David Savard. According to the Springfield Republican, he then went wide on defenseman Aaron Ness, shifted from his backhand to his forehand in one motion before beating goaltender Nathan Lawton.
"As long as I'm using my speed and taking the defense wide, good things will happen,'' Atkinson told the Republican. "I just tried to get good wood on it and fortunately, it went in.''
