The Greenwich boys basketball team goes for its fifth straight victory on Tuesday when the Cardinals host McMahon (7 p.m.)
Greenwich improved to 6-1 with Thursday's 49-41 victory over Wilton and is now just two wins away from clinching a berth in the state tournament after finishing 4-16 last season.
The Cardinals' success has been predicated on strong defense as they have held each opponent during the winning streak to 47 points or less.
While Greenwich rates as the FCIAC's most surprising team, McMahon is probably the league's biggest disappointment.
Expected to contend for a playoff spot, the Senators started 0-6 before finally securing their first win of the season on Friday, a 53-51 victory over New Canaan, which is just 1-6.
As a point of comparision, Greenwich defeated New Canaan 56-42 in the La Vista tournament last month.
On the girls' side, McMahon hosts Greenwich on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.) in a battle of struggling teams.
The Senators (2-7) have dropped six in a row while the Cardinals (1-8) are on an eight-game losing streak.
