After a disappointing trip to Bridgeport Central on Tuesday, the boys basketball team will look to defend its home turf on Friday when the Cardinals host Westhill (7 p.m.).

Greenwich suffered a 61-45 loss to the Hilltoppers for its third defeat of the season. The setback dropped the Cardinals (9-3, 7-3) into a tie with Bridgeport Central for first place in the FCIAC Western Division.

However, Greenwich is undefeated at home this season, going 6-0, including a 66-51 victory over Harding in the last home contest on Jan. 20.

Still, beating Westhill (7-4, 6-3) will be no easy feat as the Vukings have looked like a playoff team since Chris Walters returned to the kineup after missing the first five games of the season with a foot injury.

The Vikings have reeled off three straight wins, including an 86-65 victory over Stamford on Tuesday. Walters scored 26 points against the Black Knights in what was perhaps Westhill's best all-around effort of the season.

On the girls side, Greenwich (3-11, 3-9) goes for its third straight win at Westhill in a 5:45 p.m. start.

However, the Cardinals, whose wins came against against Harding and Central, will be a decided underdog against a Westhill team that is battling for an FCIAC playoff spot.

The Vikings (8-5, 7-4) are coming off Tuesday's 47-39 win over Stamford and are tied for fifth in the FCIAC standings with the Black Knights and Staples.
