Hannah Jeffrey scored four goals Monday as the girls hockey team opened the new year by defeating Fairfield 7-2 at the Dorothy Hamill Rink.
The contest was tied 1-1 after the first period, but the Cardinals erupted for four unanswered goals in the middle stanza -- including three straight by Jeffrey -- to take control.

Greenwich's Madeline Graves and Fairfied's Tabitha Cascella traded goals in the first period.
Meghan Spezzano and Lizzie Russell had the other goals for the Cardinals, who improved to 5-2. Cascella also scored in the third period for Fairfield.

Dart Freccia (1) and Jess Rosa (4) combined to make five saves for Greenwich. Steph Gabriel stopped 27 shots for Fairfield while Cascella also spent some time in goal and made four saves.

The Greenwich boys and girls basketball teams resume their FCIAC schedules on Tuesday against Trinity Catholic.
The boys (4-1) will be looking to build on their victory in the La Vista tournament, although they will be facing one of the top teams in the state in Trinity Catholic, which is coming off a win over New London at the Northeast Christmas Classic.
Greenwich defeated Darien 50-47 in the championship game of the La Vista tournament on Thursday as tournament MVP Greg Donlic scored 27 points.
The Greenwich girls (1-6), who lost twice in the La Vista tournament, are looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
