The Greenwich senior American Legion team rebounded from Monday's stunning 3-2 loss to Westport in a big way.

The Cannons routed Fairfield 17-2 Wednesday to clinch the outright zone four championship.  Greenwich (21-3) clinched an automatic into the state tournament, which begins July 19 at Muzzy Field in Bristol and Palmer Field in Middletown.

Greenwich has three games remaining in the regular season.

Greenwich's Theodore Humphrey lost to Dylan Crowley of Glen Cove, N.Y.,  2 and 1 Wednesday in the 94th Met Junior Championship at the Fairmont Country Club in Chatham, N.J.

Humphrey won three matches in the tournament, reaching the quarterfinals with a 19-hole victory over Cody Gross of Babylon, N.Y., on Wednesday morning.

Greenwich's Stephen Pastore was routed by reigning champion Matthew Love of Farmingdale, N.Y., 7 and 6 in the third round Wednesday. Love then defeated Jeremy Wall of Brielle, N.J., 3 and 1 to advance to the semifinals.

Greenwich and Ridgefield will face off for the Junior League Softball Championship on Thursday evening at 5:45 pm at Wilton's Middlebrook School. 

The winner advances to the Section 1 tournament in Orange on Monday with an opening game against the District Two champ at 5:30 p.m.

Greenwich defeated Wilton 12-2 Tuesday to finish 3-0 in pool play while Ridgefield edged Danbury, 10-9, to complete pool play at 2-1.

Greenwich outscored its three opponents by a margin 35-5, including a 12-2 win over Ridgefield.
