The Greenwich Redbirds defeated Oxford 13-2 Tuesday in pool play in the section one junior softball league tournament. The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule. 

Greenwich rebounded from Monday's 14-0 loss to Black Rock to even its record at 1-1. Black Rock is 2-0 while Oxford also is 1-1 and Bristol 0-2.

Greenwich concludes pool play on Wednesday against Bristol at 6 p.m. The top two teams play for the sectional championship on Thursday.

--The Greenwich senior American Legion team wrapped up its regular season with a 4-2 win over Wilton on Sunday. The Canons finished the year with a 23-4 record - four games ahead of runner-up Norwalk.

As zone four champion, Greenwich gains one of eight automatic bids into the 16-team double elimination tournament that begins on Saturday at Muzzy Field in Bristol and Palmer Field in Middletown.

The remaining eight spots will be filled by teams who will play in a play-in tournament during the week. Norwalk, Stamford and Trumbull also have qualified for postseason play and will be looking to get into the main draw.
