Cam and Tommy Atkinson of Greenwich are among the players who have committed to the Big Assist III, which will be played July 13 at Stamford's Terry Conners Rink.

The hockey exhibition game is hosted by Darien native Ryan Shannon, who is currently a free agent after spending the previous three seasons with the Ottawa Senators.

The game raises money for the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation, which supports individuals with spinal injury and disease.

Cam Atkinson signed a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets following a stellar career at Boston College and made his professional debut with the AHL's Springfield Falcons.

In the fall, he will try to earn a roster spot with the Blue Jackets. His brother, Tommy, is one of the top returning players for Boston College.

-- BANC will meet Redmen Tuesday in the loser's bracket final of the Greenwich Senior Babe Ruth playoffs at Greenwich High School (5:45 p.m.).

The winner advances to the two-out-of-three championship series that starts Wednesday at GHS (5:45 p.m.). Rink & Racquet advanced to the final with a 9-4 victory over BANC in the winner's bracket final on Friday.

Rink and Racquet is looking to become the first team in the league's history to win the championship for four consecutive years.

Greenwich has teams entered in the U-13, U-14 and U-15 Babe Ruth District One tournaments that will take place this week. Here is the schedule for each tournament, which is a three-team affair involving Darien, Greenwich and Stamford:

13s (all games at Darien High School):

Tuesday: Greenwich vs. Darien, 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Darien vs. Stamford, 5:30 p.m.

Thursday: Stamford vs. Greenwich, 5:30 p.m.

Top two advance to two-out-of-three final

Friday: Game 1, 5:30 p.m.

Saturday: Game 2, 11 a,m.; Game 3, 1 p.m. (if necessary)

Tuesday: Stamford vs. Greenwich, 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Greenwich vs. Darien, 5:30 p.m,

Thursday: Darien vs. Stamford, 5:30 p.m.

-- The Greenwich 12-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars will begin play in the state tournament on Saturday in Southbury. The tournament continues through July 15.

Greenwich clinched a berth in the states by winning the District One tournament last week in New Canaan. It won three games coming out of the loser's bracket, including back-to-back wins over Norwalk by scores of 7-6 and 3-2.

The Greenwich Point 1-Mile Swim gets under way Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Tod's Point in Old Greenwich.

The pre-entry fee for adults aged 19 and older is $40 for entries postmarked by July 1, and the fee is $50 thereafter. The fee for participants aged 18 and under is $20. For more info, visit www.threadsandtreads.com or call 203-661-0142.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall finishers and top three in all five-year age groups. Wetsuits are allowed, but will be ineligible for awards. The swim is part of the Stamford Greenwich Cup series.
