The Greenwich football team gets the jump on the final week of the regular season and can clinch a berth in the FCIAC championship game for the 21st time with a victory at Danbury on Thursday (7 p.m.)
Coming off a sub-par 5-5 season, the Cardinals have rolled to a 7-1 start, the only blemish a 51-33 loss to New London.

Greenwich is 7-0 in the FCIAC and will lock up a spot in the Nov. 18 title game at Trumbull's McDougall Stadium with a win over the Hatters.
Greenwich is 12-8 in the FCIAC championship game, winning its most recent titles in 2007 and 2008. Since 2000, the Cardinals have been in the game seven times.

With a victory Thursday, Greenwich would be able to sit back and await its opponent, likely to be Staples (7-0), which can book its ticket with a victory at winless Westhill on Saturday.
Thursday's game will be a battle of two of the top running backs in the FCIAC. Greenwich's Shane Nastahowski has rushed for 835 yards and 16 touchdowns while Danbury's James "Speedy" Harrington has run for 971 yards and 18 TDs.
Fresh off its second consecutive FCIAC championship, the Greenwich girls soccer team (13-2-4) opens plays in the CIAC Class LL state tournament on Thursday against No. 24 seed Manchester at 2 p.m.
Should the ninth-seeded Cardinals advance, they would take on the winner of the contest between No. 8 Ridgefield and No. 25 West Haven in the second round on Saturday.
The Greenwich boys (9-5-3) are the 17th seed and have to go on the road to take on No. 16 Hamden in the first round of the Class LL state tournament on Friday (2 p.m.).
The winner earns a date at top-ranked Pomperaug (17-1-1), which had been undefeated until losing to Bunnell in the SWC finals.
The Greenwich (14-5) girls volleyball squad hosts No. 21 Fairfield Warde in a Class LL first-round contest on Thursday at 7 p.m.. The winner heads to FCIAC runner-up Ridgefield, the No. 5 seed, for a second-round battle on Saturday.
