Greenwich's Will McHale, a third generation linebacker, has been named the 135th captain in Yale football history.
McHale's father and grandfather, both named John, were linebackers at Notre Dame, although neither captained the Fighting Irish.

"This is an incredible honor," McHale said. "I am so excited to help lead our efforts in working toward an Ivy title. I can't wait to get going."
McHale finished second on the Bulldogs this past season with 75 total tackles after having seven or more in eight of Yale's 10 games this fall. He was eighth among Ivy League defensive players with 7.9 tackles per game.

The fourth linebacker to be Yale captain in the last five years, McHale was elected after a unanimous vote by his teammates.
"Your new captain is intense, passionate, tireless and great for this team," Yale coach Tom Williams.
A three-time varsity letterman, McHale has 133 career tackles and three interceptions.
McHale was a three-year varsity letterman at Greenwich High School and led the team with 86 tackles as a junior while earning second-team all-league and team defensive MVP honors.
McHale played on the 2006 and 2007 league and state championship teams but missed his senior season with an injury.
Yale (5-5) concluded its season with a 45-7 loss to Ivy League champion Harvard on Saturday, the Bulldogs' 10th defeat in their last 11 games against the Crimson.
Staples (8-0) will host Greenwich (8-1) in the FCIAC championship game on Thursday at 10 a.m.
While a league championship is on the line, the Cardinals need a win to secure a berth in the Class LL state playoffs.
After an abbreviated week nine schedule, Greenwich is seventh in the Class rankings.
Barring a monumental turn of events, a loss would eliminate the Cardinals as there are eight two-loss teams who could jump over them, including FCIAC rivals Ridgefield and even Stamford.
