* = clinched playoff spot

Back in the thick of the state playoff race after a sub-par 5-5 season last year, the Greenwich football team looks to keep rolling against the favorable portion of its schedule.

Coming off a 55-9 drubbing of Fairfield Ludlowe, the Cardinals (4-1) visit Bridgeport Central on Friday at Bridgeport's Kennedy Stadium (6 p.m.)

Greenwich has won both games since starting quarterback Liam O'Neill returned after missing three games while recovering from a concussion suffered in a preseason scrimmage.

Highly touted running Shane Nastahowski rushed for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns in last week's victory over Ludlowe. The Cardinals built a 34-7 lead at the half and cruised to an easy victory.

Bridgeport Central has won two in a row to improve to 2-3, although the victories have come against a pair of winless teams in Westhill (43-12) and Bassuck (38-14).

Earlier in the season, Central suffered lopsided losses to Staples (48-8) and Danbury (44-8).

Greenwich is 12th in the latest CIAC Class LL state rankings, falling from eighth last week, and may need to win out to make the playoffs.
