Trumbull (11-1-4) jumped over Darien in the No. 2 spot with a 3-1 win over Trinity Catholic on Wednesday and will entertain No. 7 seed Wilton (9-5-2) .

Darien (11-2-3) slipped to third in the final FCIAC standings and will host No. 6 Westhill (9-5-2) in the other quarterfinal on Friday.

Westhill completed its remarkable run to the FCIAC playoffs with a 3-0 victory over Fairfield Warde on Monday

The Vikings appeared headed for a long season when they had to forfeit three early victories after it was learned that one of their players competed in a men's league.

However, Westhill recovered from an 0-5 start by going 9-0-2 and will enter the playoffs as the league's hottest team.

Westhill, Wilton and New Canaan all tied with 29 points, but Westhill secured the sixth seed based on having the best record among the three team. Wilton grabbed the No. 7 seed by virtue of its win over New Canaan.

The quarterfinal games will be played at the sites of the higher-seeded teams. The semifinals are set for Tuesday at 5 and 7 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe with the championship game being played on Thursday at Norwalk at 7 p.m.

Greenwich was eliminated from the FCIAC field hockey playoffs on Wednesday even though the Cardinals didn't play.

Greenwich came into Wednesday seventh in the standings, but Fairfield Ludlowe (5-6-1-1) jumped over Westhill and the Cardinals with a 2-1 win over McMahon.

Westhill (5-7-1-1) clinched the final playoff spot despite suffering a 3-0 loss to New Canaan.

The Vikings finished in a tie with Greenwich with 11 points, but won the tiebreaker based on their victory over the Cardinals during the regular season.

Westhill's reward is a matchup with top seed Darien (13-0-0-0), which has not since 2007.

Fairfield Ludlowe grabbed the No. 7 seed and will meet No. 2 seed Wilton (11-2-0-0) in the quarterfinals. Ludlowe finished with 12 points, jumping ahead of Westhill and Greenwich in the final standings.

In the other quarterfinal matchups, No. 3 Norwalk (10-2-1-0) takes on. No. 6 New Canaan (8-4-1-0) and No. 4 Staples (7-2-3-1) battles No. 4 Staples (7-2-3-1).

The Black Knights won a tiebreaker with New Canaan because of a victory over the Rams in the regular season to get the higher seed.

All quarterfinal games will be played at McMahon on Saturday and the times will be announced on Thursday.
