Greenwich's Cam Atkinson will make his NHL debut on Friday when the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Nashville Predators in their season opener.
Taken by the Blue Jackets in the sixth round of the 2008 draft, Atkinson signed a two-year contract with the club on March 27 after a stellar career at Boston College.

After playing in five games with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL at the end of last season (three goals and two assists), Atkinson earned a roster spot on the big club with a strong preseason.
Atkinson jurned pro after his junior season at Boston College in which he registered 31 goals and 21 assists for 52 points, 28 penalty minutes and a +21 plus/minus rating in 39 games. He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award, given annually to the top college hockey player in the country.

In 117 career games at BC, Atkinson recorded 68 goals and 56 assists, helping lead the Eagles to the NCAA national championship in 2010.
Prior to his collegiate career, Atkinson tallied 69-81-150 and 38 penalty minutes in 80 games for Avon Old Farms High School, helping the school win the New England Ice Hockey championship in 2007 and 2008.
Atkinson's younger brother, Tommy, will be a senior on this year's Boston College team.
