Greenwich Shows It's 'Positively More' For Teen Girls

The Junior League of Greenwich launches Positively More, a new project aimed to address the issues facing 11- and 12-year-old girls today.

The Junior League of Greenwich (JLG) recently completed its newest program, Positively More focuses on positive development of 11-and 12-year-old girls.

The latest in a series of five separate sessions focused on 11- and 12-year-old girls and aims to give girls the tools to avoid questionable situations, lessen the consequences of conflicts, and identify lessons learned by challenges.

The girls can choose from the free sessions that are offered between November and April that are held at the JLG’s Headquarters. The program was conceptualized as a follow up to the Junior League of Greenwich’s extremely successful program for third grade girls, Positively Me!. The Junior League of Greenwich recognized an opportunity to address this next age group.

Accompanying each session are “Teen Ambassadors,” from all area high schools including Greenwich High School, Convent of the Sacred Heart, King Low Heywood Thomas, The Stanwich School, and Greenwich Academy. After two sessions of Positively More the committee learned that having the Teen Ambassadors is one the project’s greatest assets. The Teen Ambassadors interact with the younger girls in the workshops, sit with them and support them, share stories of when they were 11 years old, and explain what they can expect going forward.

Each session includes a series of workshops moderated by professionals including Beth O’Malley, LCSW, Jenny Byxbee, Greenwich’s Youth Services Coordinator, Sara Rawson, Occupational Therapist, Meredith Gold, Domestic Abuse Service Coordinator YWCA, and Tori Aiello, The Speech Improvement Company.
