Having survived an ugly game against New Canaan, the Greenwich boys basketball team continues its pursuit of an FCIAC playoff spot on Friday when the Cardinals host defending FCIAC champion Bassick (7 p.m.).
Greenwich overcame a double-figure deficit in the first half to defeat New Canaan 46-39 on Tuesday and snap its three-game losing streak.
The win eabled the Cardinals to hold on to an FCIAC playoff spot as the Cardinals (10-5, 8-5) are sixth in the crowded standings, one-half game ahead of Bridgeport Central (8-6). Danbury, Fairfield Warde, Stamford and Staples are all tied fo eighth at 7-6, meaning there six teams separated by just a single game.
Bassick (12-4, 10-4) figures to be a tough opponent for the Cardinals especially after the Lions were embarrassed 92-56 at Trinity Catholic on Tuesday. Greenwich could be facing an angry group.
The Greenwich girls (3-14, 3-12) have a good chance to pick up their fourth win of the season Friday when they visit winless Bassick (5:15 p.m.)
Greenwich is coming off Tuesday's 69-57 loss at Greenwich while Bassick dropped to 0-17 following a 66-30 setback to Trinity Catholic.
