Greenwich Sports Roundup: March 6

Your interactive daily digest for all Greenwich scores, schedules and standings -- and a place to add information and images for all youth sports

After struggling down the stretch, the boys basketball team is the 23rd seed in the Class LL state tournament and will play at No. 10 seed Manchester (15-5) in the first round on Tuesday (6 p.m.).

If the Cardinals (11-9) pull off the upset, they would face either No. 7 seed Crosby or No. 26 Trumbull in the second round on Thursday.

After starting 7-1, Greemwich lost its final three regular-season games, including a 62-53 overtime setback at Danbury that kept the Cardinals out of the FCIAC playoffs.

Still, Greenwich is assured of a winning season after going just 4-16 last year and the seven-game improvement is one of the best turnarounds in the state.

Greenwich made the state tournament two years ago, also finishing 11-9 and losing to East Catholic 60-46 in the first round.
