Greenwich TV Personality Joan Lunden Shaves Head in Breast Cancer Battle

The former host of ABC's 'Good Morning America' has shaved her head as she finishes chemotherapy treatment for advanced breast cancer.

Greenwich television personality and author Joan Lunden just became the poster girl for breast cancer patients.

The 64-year-old Lunden, who revealed three months ago that she’s battling an aggressive form of breast cancer, appears on the cover of the current issue of People Magazine with a shaved head.

The former “Good Morning America” host could’ve worn a wig for magazine’s photo shoot, but the longtime health advocate told People she saw the photo shoot as an opportunity to raise awareness.

She posted on her Facebook page on Wednesday, “No taking it back now...my People magazine cover, bold and bald, is out!#itsjusthair http://on.today.com/1uGnS9q.”

“I had to make this big decision about whether or not to do the cover with no hair,” Lunden told People. “It certainly isn’t the comfortable way to go, but I decided I was going to try and help others and show women that this isn’t the end of the world. You can go on — and that was hugely empowering.”

Lunden reportedly is recovering from surgery earlier this week to remove the tumor that shrunk 95 percent following her chemotherapy treatments. She lives here in Greenwich with her husband Jeff Konigsberg and their two sets of twins.
