Greenwich Woman Is Accused of Forging Checks Worth Thousands

Police say the suspect stole the checks and then forged the signature of an elderly relative.

A Greenwich woman is facing larceny and forgery charges involving the theft of a checkbook from an elderly relative and the forging of the victim’s signature on checks worth thousands of dollars.

Greenwich Police say the suspect surrendered on Friday, Jan. 23 after she was notified police obtained an arrest warrant charging her with first-degree larceny and first-degree forgery.

The victim learned of the forgeries in October from bank officials who told her about “an unusual number of checks written to cash and to the landlord of her niece,” according to a police report.

Police added in their report, “When the victim further reconciled her finances she found further discrepancies much greater than what the suspect had admitted to and agreed to pay back.”
