Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Connecticut

Connecticut may see some severe weather this weekend. If you have outdoor plans, here are the latest details on the stormy forecast.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Connecticut as the remnants of Cindy will bring unsettled weather to the area, including showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and Saturday morning.

The weekend isn’t a total bust, as the heavy rain and storms move out late Saturday morning and sun builds later in the day. Sunday is expected to be a nice, sunny day.

In its Hazardous Weather Outlook for Southern Connecticut, the weather service writes, “Showers and thunderstorm are likely to work through the region late tonight into Saturday morning in association with a slow moving cold front. There is a threat for flash flooding in the path of a low pressure wave tracking along this front. Uncertainty exists on the exact track of this wave at this time...as it could be anywhere from the Northern Mid-Atlantic to Southern New England.”

For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service writes, “There is the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms late this morning into early afternoon across northern and western portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut. An additional threat of embedded heavy rain presents the potential for flooding. Across the south coast there is the possibility early this morning and then again towards this evening of widespread fog with visibility down to a quarter mile or less.”

And then on Saturday morning, northern Connecticut is forecast to see “Excessive rainfall is forecast in association with the remnants of Cindy. The locally heavy rainfall could result in flooding. This threat is for all of Southern New England. In addition, the threat of visibility down to a quarter mile or less continues for communities across southeast New England.”

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote, “Hazy sun, lots of humidity and some midday showers and thunderstorms! Some hazy sun for parts of the afternoon followed by more showers and thunderstorms this evening. High temperatures today between 78 and 85. Very humid tonight into tomorrow. Heavy rain on Saturday morning will give way to some sunshine Saturday afternoon. Quiet weather on Sunday and turning less humid!” (To sign up for free, local breaking news alerts from more than 100 Connecticut communities click here.)
