CT Weather: Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Expected Today

The National Weather Service says an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out today for parts of the state. Here are the new weather updates.

The National Weather Service says there is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms today across Connecticut and they say an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out completely in parts of the state. Thursday, Friday and Saturday also have the potential to be stormy too, but there will also be plenty of dry periods too over the next few days. It won't be a washout like we've seen recently.

For Southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service says, "There is a marginal to slight chance for severe thunderstorms today into early tonight. The main threat is damaging winds. An isolated tornado or water spout is also possible."

For Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, the weather service says, "There is the potential for a few strong thunderstorms this afternoon, and a few may be severe. The main concern is the risk of flooding due to excessive rainfall, especially in urban corridors. Gusty winds are also possible."

In Litchfield County, there is a chance of thunderstorms today into tonight, with a slight risk for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening across the majority of the region. The main threat with any storms will be gusty winds. An isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out. In addition, any shower or thunderstorm is capable of producing heavy downpours, which may cause flooding of low lying, urban or poor drainage areas. There is a marginal risk for flash flooding for most of the area."
