Popular Greenwich Pub To Close Its Doors
The owner said the building is for sale, and they were unable to renew their lease. The business will officially close in June.

GREENWICH, CT — After 18 years in business, MacDuff's Public House in downtown Greenwich will close its doors.
Owner Scott Sievwright announced on Facebook this week that the business will officially close on June 24.
"As the owner of this establishment, it is the hardest decision I have had to make, but unfortunate circumstances have led us to this point. The building is going up for sale and we are unable to renew our lease," Sievwright said.

MacDuff's, which is located at 99 Railroad Ave., is one of several business in the area that is closing.
Across the street, Rink & Racquet Ltd., and Gym Source closed, and Planet Pizza will soon shutter, but the pizzeria chain plans on opening up another location in town. The three businesses have been affected by the big project planned for Greenwich Plaza.

Sievwright said the establishment has become more than just a restaurant over the years.
"It has been a gathering place for friends, families, and the community. We have taken great pride in providing exceptional dining experiences and creating lasting memories. The loyalty and support we have received from our customers, employees, friends and family have been invaluable," Sievwright added.
Sievwright, who is originally from Scotland, opened the Greenwich location in 2005 with his brother, and later expanded with an outpost in Lake Tahoe in 2010, according to their website.
The menu features classic pub fare for brunch, lunch and dinner, from chicken wings, nachos and pizza, to salads, sandwiches, wraps and entrees. There's also a variety of cocktails, bottled and draught beers and wine available.
Sievwright thanked his employees, family and friends, and customers for support over the years.
"I cannot begin to express how important you have all been to me over the last 18 years," Scott said. "The unwavering support from my family and close friends has always been a helpful and needed force to keep the ideals of MacDuff’s constant over this time. Iain and I started MacDuff’s with the idea of bringing a proper pub to Greenwich. We wanted to show off what real pub cuisine should be, with fresh food made from scratch by our amazing chef Gustavo, and a comfortable atmosphere that could be enjoyed by everyone."
Even though the business is set to close, Sievwright said he does not want to go out with a whimper. MacDuffs is inviting the community to come in and celebrate the last 18 years. The best specials will be offered in the coming weeks, and multiple goodbye parties are being planned with some of MacDuff's favorite bands, Sievwright said.
Sievwright concluded his letter by quoting David Bowie.
"I don’t know where I am going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring."
Residents expressed sadness over the closing in the Facebook comments.
"This is truly a very sad day. My family and I are heartbroken by the news. Macduff’s was one of a kind place that will never be replaced. The entire staff made everyone feel like family," one commenter said. "So many memories over the years that will last a lifetime. It has been a wonderful meeting place over the years and so many friendships were established."
Another person commented about the impact the business had on her family when they came to town.
"We moved to Greenwich knowing absolutely no one, and after one night at MacDuff’s, we made fast and lasting friendships that we will cherish always," the comment said. "Thanks for giving us a 'second living room,' and memories to last a lifetime."
