Officers found three males who tried to flee the scene on foot, police said. Carvajal-Mendez was apprehended immediately, police said, and the others fled south on Weaver Street.
Officers established a perimeter to prevent the two men from leaving the area, police said, and help was requested from the Stamford Police Department and Port Chester Police Department K-9 Units. The Westchester County Police Aviation Unit assisted with a helicopter.
Residents were advised to stay indoors, although police said there was no danger to the public.
The search ended around 9:10 p.m. after officers deemed that the two men were no longer in the area. O'Reilly said the men were wearing dark colored clothing — no other information has been released.
