Man, 52, Drowned In Byram River: Police

A 52-year-old man died Tuesday near the Greenwich and Port Chester, N.Y., border after he went for a swim in the Byram River, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — A 52-year-old man died on Tuesday near the Greenwich and Port Chester, N.Y., border after he went for a swim in the Byram River and drowned, according to Port Chester police.

At around 4:30 p.m., a caller alerted police to the river and an area under the I-95 bridge where the man was seen earlier.

Am extensive search of the shoreline found nothing, police said, but with the help of authorities from the Greenwich Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Westchester County Police Department, Rye Police Department and New Rochelle Police Department, the man was found in about 10 feet of water.

Divers from the Greenwich Police Department were able to remove the man who was transported to the Port Chester side of the river where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification to his family, who live in another country.
