GREENWICH, CT — Memorial Day is America's day to honor servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. For many, Memorial Day is also the unofficial start of summer, and as a national holiday, it's important to keep in mind that schools, banks and government offices will be closed on this Monday, May 29.

Here's a brief roundup of what will be open and what'll be closed on Monday:

  • Libraries
  • Banks/financial institutions
  • Post offices
  • Waste Management: Check with the town or your refuse collector for schedules.

Open

Most retail businesses and restaurants will be open, but it's not a bad idea to call ahead before heading out. And some businesses are offering discounts to veterans or active-duty military on Memorial Day, so if you've served, bring your military ID with you.
