Memorial Scheduled For Former Sacred Heart Greenwich Headmistress

Pamela Juan Hayes, the former Head of School at Sacred Heart Greenwich, died on Sept. 15.

GREENWICH, CT — According to an announcement from the school, a memorial Mass for former Sacred Heart Greenwich Head of School and alumna Pamela Juan Hayes ('64) will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich. A reception will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Greenwich on King Street.

The Greenwich Time reported that Hayes died in her sleep at her home in Florida on Sept. 15. She had pancreatic cancer. Hayes recently retired after about 10 years as Head of School at Sacred Heart Greenwich, and moved to Florida.

According to her obituary, Hayes was the first lay Head of School in Sacred Heart Greenwich's 161-year history. During her tenure as Head of School, Hayes "spearheaded notable improvements to the curriculum, as well as school facilities," including the addition of state-of- the-art field hockey and lacrosse turf fields.

The school said that Hayes' family has asked that gifts to the school be made to the Pamela Juan Hayes ’64 Memorial Endowment Fund, which will support student programming and initiatives "in keeping with Hayes’ deep love of learning and her commitment to the building of character and leadership skills in all students on King Street."
