GREENWICH, CT — Mike’s Organic, the farm-to-home delivery service and Greenwich retail market, announced it will be closing on Sunday, March 3. The brand has been in business for 15 years.

Longtime Greenwich resident and owner Mike Geller issued a statement Thursday night about the closing.

"This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. But sometimes we can’t avoid the hard times. No matter how much we fight against them," Geller said. "This business has long been a dream of mine. A chance to unite the two things I love the most about life. Food and people."

That dream began in 2009 when Geller launched the business as one of the first farm-to-home delivery services in America. What began as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) delivery grew into an online farmers market servicing Fairfield and Westchester Counties.

In 2019, Mike's Organic opened a storefront out of its delivery headquarters in Stamford, and then opened a small-format grocery store and market in Greenwich at 600 E. Putnam Ave., in 2023, which aimed to reinvent shopping through careful curation and interactive experiences that connected the community with their food and the people behind it.

"We fought through adversity and challenges we never could have foreseen. Had successes and failures," Geller said. "Several issues impeded our progress, including significantly higher-than-anticipated construction costs, inflation, food prices rising at the highest rate in decades, continued challenges in the retail industry, and more. In the end we were not able to get the business to the place it needed to be in the time we had."

The brand has given back to numerous charities and was recently highlighted by Forbes when one of its employees spoke about the impact of working at Mike's.

Geller thanked his customers and employees for their support over the years.

"I want to thank our incredible farmers, makers and vendors who pour their hearts into doing what they love, and who helped make all of us happier and healthier through the amazing food they shared with us," Geller said.

"I am deeply appreciative for all the amazing people who worked at and were the backbone of Mike’s. You loved this company the way I did. And it showed. In every smile, every kind word, every sticker given to a child. We treated people the way that we would want to be treated. Thank you to everyone for the support these last 15 years."

The store, including the delivery service, will close on March 3. A store-closing sale will begin immediately and will continue through Sunday with a 20 percent discount on all grocery items.

"We will miss you all," Geller concluded, "and we hope you all will stop in to say goodbye over the next few days."
