Connecticut Weather Forecast: New Snow Warnings/Advisories Issued

The National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for parts of Connecticut. Here's the latest on timing and how much snow.

Here we go. Connecticut is hours away from its first snowstorm of the season. The National Weather Service has just issued a Winter Storm Warning for parts of the state. The entire state will see between three and seven inches of snow Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Areas along the Connecticut coast east of New Haven will see the most snow.

The snow will begin around daybreak and continue throughout the day and evening hours before tapering off around midnight. Throughout the past 24 hours snow estimates have been increasing significantly.

The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for the coast of New Haven County, all of Middlesex, New London, and Windham counties. In these areas you can expect to receive 5 to 7 inches of snow.

The rest of the state including Fairfield County, interior sections of New Haven County, Hartford and Tolland counties remain in the 3-6 inch snow range. The advisories and warnings are issued for 4 a.m. Saturday until early Sunday morning.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said Friday evening that he “Bumped up snow totals (again) based on new guidance. 7" and 8" totals possible especially NE Hills.” He said there could still be some snow around daybreak Sunday, while adding that this is a long duration storm.

Fox 61 Meteorologist Rachel Frank‏ said “Here's the final map! (Geez, I hope.) Storm looks more impressive and it's hard to ignore the signals."

WTNH News 8 Fred Campagna‏ said, “This graphic gives you an idea of how the snow may pile up on Saturday. We're not expecting too much to stick before noon, but it will get slippery in the afternoon/evening.”


Here is the updated Saturday snowy forecast via the National Weather Service:

Fairfield County:

Snow mainly after 9 a.m. and 3 to 5 inches during the day and an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow at night. Temps around freezing. Snow tapers off around midnight.


New Haven County coast:

Snow mainly after 9 a.m. and 3 to 5 inches during the day and an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow at night. Snow ends around midnight.


Inland sections of New Haven County:

Snow mainly after 9 a.m. and 3 to 5 inches during the day and an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow at night. Temps in the upper 20s. Snow ends around midnight.


Middlesex County:

Snow mainly after 9 a.m. and 3 to 5 inches during the day. Temps around freezing. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow at night is expected and the snow ends around midnight.


New London County:

Snow after 6 a.m. and 3 to 5 inches during the day is expected. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow at night and the snow ends by 3 a.m. Sunday.


Hartford County:

Snow begins mainly after 11 a.m. with snow accumulating 2 to 4 inches during the day. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible at night and the snow ends around midnight.


Tolland County:

Snow mainly after 10 a.m. with snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches during the day. An additional 2 to 4 inches is possible at night and the snow tapers off after 1 a.m. Sunday. Temps down into the mid 20s.
