Need Ideas for Celebrating Mother's Day in Greenwich?

The 13th annual Mother's Day Bike Ride in Old Greenwich has activities for the entire family.

For more than a decade, Greenwich families have awakened early on Mother’s Day and instead of making mom breakfast in bed, have headed out for the annual Mother’s Day Bike Ride.

It was started as a way to educate kids and adults about good biking behavior, how to share the road and how to maintain safe equipment, the event run by the Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center (OGRCC) has exploded into a morning of family fun and entertainment

The event starts and finishes at the Old Greenwich Elementary School, and while the day is about having fun, bike safety is still the important message. Several local bike shops will be on hand at registration to check out bikes, perform safety inspections, check helmets and show people how to best be safe on the roads.

This year with a new partner, Ellington Management Group, the 13th annual OGRCC Mother’s Day Bike Ride also will feature stunt bike shows, a kid’s craft area to make Mother’s Day cards, food trucks, flower vendors and personal trainers for yoga and stretching, in addition to the traditional 6-mile ride to and around Tod’s Point, the one-mile Kid’s Ride and the beginners kick bike ride.

Ellington and Neighbor to Neighbor also will be collecting food donations on-site for the local food pantry, and the locally organized Mother’s Day Movement will be on hand helping raise awareness and educate people about the challenges faced by mother’s around the globe. Proceeds from the event will benefit the OGRCC Scholarship Fund.
