New Assistant Principal Appointed At Central Middle School

Lauren Showstead will replace Lindsey Pontieri, who recently departed Greenwich Public Schools.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones on Monday announced the appointment of Lauren Showstead as assistant principal at Central MIddle School.

Showstead replaces Lindsey Pontieri, who recently departed GPS to become an assistant director of special education in a different school district.

Showstead will support the entire CMS community, assisting in the educational development and achievement of school goals and objectives, organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment, while advocating on behalf of all students, the school district said in a news release.

"I am thrilled to be selected as the new assistant principal for Central Middle School," Showstead said in a news release. "Building relationships through support, communication, and respect with students, staff, and families is essential to foster individual growth and student learning in an inclusive and nurturing environment. Throughout my 28 years in education, I have had high expectations for all learners, celebrated their successes, and helped them learn from missteps. I look forward to using my knowledge and skill set, along with my passion for education, as I step into this role."

Showstead has been with GPS since 2006, most recently as the interim assistant principal at Glenville School since March and a special education teacher at Western Middle School since July 2010. She held additional positions at GPS, including special education teacher at Parkway, Response to Intervention (RTI) coach for the district, and the interim assistant principal at Cos Cob.

Jones said Showstead's commitment and dedication to the Greenwich community over the last 16 years "has been inspirational."

"We welcome her in this new role and look forward to this wonderful addition to the Central Middle School administration," Jones said in a news release.

CMS Principal Thomas Healy said the school is "very excited" to welcome Showstead to the team.

"Her passion for education, and specifically for engaging in the work of improving student outcomes through her deep understanding of how to utilize data and evidence to inform decision-making, made her an excellent choice," Healy said in a news release. "These qualities will serve our students, staff, and families well as we continue to meet the needs of the CMS community."

Showstead’s career as an educator began in 1994 as a teacher at the May Center School for Autism and Developmental Disabilities in Braintree, Mass., followed by positions at Weymouth (Mass.) Middle School, William Foster Elementary School in Hingham, Mass., West Elementary School in New Canaan, and King’s Highway Elementary School in Westport.

Showstead holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from the University of Vermont, a master’s in elementary education from the University of Massachusetts Boston and Intermediate Administration Certification (092) from the University of Connecticut Stamford.
