GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones announced on Monday the appointment of Matthew Cerruto as assistant principal at Parkway School, effective immediately.

Cerruto replaces Cindy Boucard, who departed GPS at the end of this past school year for an administrative role in a district closer to her new home.

Cerruto will assist Principal Mary Grandville in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meet the needs of all students, staff and parents at Parkway, the school district said in a news release.

This includes such responsibilities as leading, directing, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring and evaluating staff; and fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents.

"I am deeply honored to join the faculty of Parkway School," Cerruto said in a news release. "As a new administrator, I am excited at the opportunity to work together with students, families, and staff as we grow as a learning community."

Jones said GPS continues to be a "preferred destination" for educators in the region.

"We are very excited to add Mr. Cerruto to Principal Grandville’s administrative team, providing outstanding leadership for our students and staff at Parkway School," Jones added.

Cerruto has been an educator with Stamford Public Schools since 2005, most recently as a teacher leader for student support at Julia A. Stark Elementary School. His responsibilities included giving administrative support to the school community, protocol compliance, behavioral support, a crisis team member and afterschool programming coordinator.

In addition to being a physical education and health teacher at Stark, the Rogers International School and Springdale Elementary School, he held a special assignment as administrative intern at Stark for six years, where his duties and responsibilities were comparable to an assistant principal.

"We are thrilled to welcome Matthew Cerruto as Parkway School's new assistant principal," Grandville said in a news release. "Mr. Cerruto has established himself as a proven leader who has focused on building positive and supportive relationships with students, faculty and parents to support the growth of his students.

"Mr. Cerruto's leadership and experience in data-driven decision making, student intervention planning, and restorative behavioral practices are very impressive. This expertise, coupled with his warm and enthusiastic personality, make him the perfect choice to help lead our school."

Cerruto holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Keene State College, a master’s degree in educational leadership and a Sixth Year Certificate in educational administration and supervision from the University of Bridgeport.
