New Chief Meteorologist Named At Connecticut TV Station

He's a familiar face to viewers.

Ryan Hanrahan, who has been with the station for more than a dozen years, has been named the Chief Meteorologist for NBC Connecticut/WVIT, effective immediately, the station announced Monday.

Hanrahan will deliver forecasts during the station's 4 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts weekdays.

"Becoming a Chief Meteorologist in Connecticut has been a dream of mine since I was a kid growing up on the shoreline," said Hanrahan in a statement. "I’m thrilled for this opportunity and excited to continue to share my love of weather and science with our viewers and in my home state."

The new title marks the latest in a long list of moves in recent months by Connecticut meteorologists and news personalities, including a change in stations for Sarah Cody, and a return to the state for George Colli.

Hanrahan's new role, first reported by Tom Dudchik, did not go unnoticed by Connecticut's junior United States Sen. Chris Murphy, who offered his congratulations to Hanrahan below.

The popular meteorologist is a Guilford native and graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He's a regional Emmy award-winner, who has also reported on many of Connecticut's recent big storms, including hurricanes Irene and Sandy, according to the station.
