NFL Vikings Re-sign Greenwich HS Footballer John Sullivan

The Minnesota Vikings have signedgraduate John Sullivan to a contract extension. The team did not disclose terms, but ESPN reported it to be a five-year deal worth $25 million.
A University of Notre Dame product, Sullivan became the Vikings' starting center in 2009. He has appeared in 58 career games, starting 42.

Although Minnesota is struggling through a difficult season at 2-12, the Vikings were fourth in the NFL in rushing heading into the wekend.
"We are very excited about the future of John Sullivan," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. "He has quickly become a leader among the offensive linemen. John is having an outstanding 2011 season and he is a big part of why our rushing attack is near the top in the NFL. We are thrilled about having John as a member of the Minnesota Vikings for years to come."

Meghan Spezzano had two goals as the Greenwich girls hockey team defeated Summit (N.J.) 4-0 in the road.
Dart Freccia earned the shutout for the Cardinals, who improved to 2-1 Erin Ferguson and Hannah Jeffrey also had goals for Greenwich and Maddie Graves contributed two assists.
Greenwich is back in action on Monday against Trumbull/Staples at 8:30 p.m. at the Rinks at Shelton.

Alejandro Rodriguez scored a game-high 17 points Friday as the Greenwich boys basketball team defeated Fairfield Ludlowe 55-40 on Friday to improve to 2-0.
Greg Donlic added 16 points for the Cardinals, who won with defense, holding Fairfield Ludlowe (1-1) to single figures in three of the fourth quarters.
Greenwich, which already halfway toward matching last season's win total (4-16), figures to get a tougher test on Tuesday when it visits FCIAC.

Sarah Nesi scored 20 points and Briana Curran added 14 as the Fairfield Ludlowe girls basketball team defeated Greenwich 48-38 on Friday.
The Falcons won their second straight to even their record at 2-2. They prevailed despite shooting less than 50 percent from the foul line (13-of-29)
, including 4-of-16 in the first half.
Caroline Barrett scored 15 points and Jenny Cespedes added 11 for Greenwich (1-3), which dropped its third straight.
Leading 21-17 at the half, Ludlowe took control with a 9-1 spurt to open the second half. The Falcons held a 37-22 advantage entering the final period.
