ParkMobile App Security Breach: Here's What Residents Should Do

The parking app experienced a security breach in March.

GREENWICH, CT — ParkMobile, the app that lets users find and pay for parking through their cell phone, experienced a security breach in March. After an investigation, ParkMobile released their findings in mid-April.

According to ParkMobile's website, the investigation confirmed that no credit card information was accessed, and no data to a user's parking transaction history was accessed. Only basic user information was exposed, such as license plate numbers, as well as email addresses, phone numbers, and vehicle nicknames if provided by the user. Additionally, a small percentage of mailing addresses were also affected. Encrypted passwords were also accessed, but not the encryption keys required to read them.

"At this point, the main recommendation from the Town’s Chief Information Security Officer is for users to change their password," said First Selectman Fred Camillo in an update last week. Camillo reiterated that the town does not have an ownership stake in the app.
