Woman Hit By SUV, Seriously Injured In Greenwich: Police

Police said a 78-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was hit by a Range Rover driven by a Stamford resident.

GREENWICH, CT — A 78-year-old woman was hit by an SUV and seriously injured Monday morning on Railroad Avenue in downtown Greenwich, according to police.

The woman, a resident of Flushing in Queens, N.Y., suffered "a serious life-threatening injury" and was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

Police have not provided further details on the woman's condition.

The collision occurred around 8:45 a.m. Monday when a 35-year-old Stamford man, who was driving a Range Rover, turned left from Field Point Road onto Railroad Avenue and struck the woman as she was crossing the street, police said.

Railroad Avenue between Arch Street and Field Point Road was closed for about two hours while members of the Greenwich Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team conducted an investigation.

Police noted that the driver remained at the scene and is currently cooperating with investigators.
