Performers Announced For Greenwich Town Party; Ticket Lottery Open

Organizers are calling the 2023 performance a "once-in-a-lifetime" collaboration.

GREENWICH, CT — New Orleans is coming to Greenwich this Memorial Day Weekend.

The Greenwich Town Party on Wednesday announced the performers for this year's event, which is slated for May 27 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

Rather than a major headline act, like in previous years with Billy Joel, the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Eric Clapton, to name a few, the 2023 Greenwich Town Party will host the "Preservation Hall Super Jam," a collaboration of the best of New Orleans music.

The ticket lottery for the event is also now open, and will run through April 7. Only Greenwich residents, business owners and employees are eligible.

Performers include the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Wyclef Jean, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, Ivan Neville, Irma Thomas, Cyril Neville, George Porter, Jr., Eric Krasno, Raymond Weber, Tony Hall, Celisse and Tarriona "Tank" Ball.

Prior to the "super jam" will be The Revivalists, Mavis Staples and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, performers who are steeped in the musical traditions of New Orleans.

The musical lineup was specially curated by musical legends Ben Jaffe of Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Krasno, a multi-Grammy Award winner.

New this year, GTP organizers have planned several immersive and educational experiences prior to Saturday’s festivities that will celebrate the vibrant sounds of New Orleans.

In the spirit of a commonly used New Orleans term "Lagniappe," which means "a little unexpected extra," guests will also experience "a wide array of culture bearers and celebrity artists that all embody The Big Easy’s traditions," organizers said.

"New Orleans music is my favorite. It's the result of a rich cultural history that came through Congo Square with Black music giving birth to the evolution of the blues, gospel, rock and roll, and hip hop," added Ray Dalio, founder of the GTP, in a news release "[GTP Board Co-Presidents] Ray Rivers, Carl Kuehner and myself, and our friends, have gone to almost all the Jazz Fests in New Orleans over the last two decades. We have been thrilled by this music and tradition, so we are excited to bring the best of it to Greenwich this year. We know it will knock everyone’s socks off."

Jaffe called the event "one-in-a-lifetime."

"It will be a melting pot of styles, where jazz, rock, blues and folk coalesce in a festive, creative way," he said in a news release. "While musicians entertain from the stage, the Greenwich community can dance in the park, like we do in the streets of New Orleans."

The 2023 lineup for the GTP Town Stage will be announced next month.

Ticket Lottery

Greenwich residents, business owners and employees can enter the ticket lottery by submitting a lottery waitlist request form, which can be found on the GTP website.

The waitlist request form serves as the lottery entry. The form will collect contact information, the number of tickets requested, along with credit card information, which will be securely stored with GTP’s new third-party ticketing partner, Front Gate Tickets.

Lottery winners will be randomly chosen from the lottery waitlist submission pool and notified the week of April 10. No preference will be given to date/time of submission within the open period.

All children must have a ticket to attend the event. Tickets are free of charge for children 12 and under, and must be included when the lottery waitlist request form is submitted.

New this year, winners will be notified, their credit card charged for the exact number of tickets requested, and they will receive a confirmation of the purchase. If a winner declines or opts out, the tickets will be available to the next person on the waitlist.

All lottery entries submitted will be verified for Greenwich residency or employment. If the billing zip code is not within the town of Greenwich, the GTP will verify the applicant via proof of residency and/or employment.

Neighbor and sponsor ticket levels are also available for purchase.

In an effort to give more access to residents for GTP festivities, a pre-event parade and party is being planned. The Greenwich Board of Selectmen on Wednesday afternoon is expected to approve the event, which would be open for all.
