UPDATE: Hundreds Lose Power in CT

An up-to-date report on outages locally and statewide.

There were 1,595 Connecticut Light & Power customers without power, primarily in the Cos Cob area of Greenwich Tuesday morning, according to officials.

A bird apparently caused the issue at a substation on River Road which malfunctioned, according to officials. Among the streets affected are Stanwich Road, Valley Road, Sinawoy Road, Orchard Street, Valleywood Drive and Kent Place.

The outage was reported about 10:24 a.m. and by noon only two customers remained without power, according to the CL&P website.

With winds gusting up to 37 mph as the winter storm pulls away from the Connecticut coast, some power outages are being reported.

As of 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, there are 1,590 Connecticut Light & Power customers without service in Greenwich — the largest outage reported since the storm began on Monday. The outage represents about six percent of CL&P’s 27,966 customers, according to the utility’s website.

There are scattered outages also reported in Stamford and Brookfield with four customers each; two in Waterbury, seven in Middletown and one in Bloomfield.

United Illuminating is reporting one customer in West Haven without service.

Update: 2:30 a.m.

Middletown: 705 customers without power (3 percent).

Update: 12:50 a.m.:

Meriden’s power has been fully restored.

Update 12:38 a.m.:

Meriden: 833 customers without power (3 percent).

Middletown: 547 customers without power (2 percent).

Thompson 1 customer without power.

Bridgeport: 18 customers without power (crew enroute).

Update 12:08 a.m.:

Middletown: 547 customers without power (2 percent).

Southington: 8 customers without power.

The heaviest blizzard conditions are expected to arrive in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 27, but power outages are already being reported.

As of 11:27 p.m. Monday, CL&P reported the following outages on its map. United Illuminating reported no outages at that time.

  • Ledyard: 5 homes without power
  • Meriden: 497 homes without power out of 27,709 homes (2 percent)
  • Newtown: One home without power
  • North Stonington: One home without power
  • Southington: One home without power
  • Thompson: One home without power
