GREENWICH, CT — Ray Dalio, founder of Westport-based hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, and his wife, Barbara Dalio, are Connecticut's Biggest Living Donors, according to a new study by The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

The couple, who reside in Greenwich, have donated $87.1 million to various charities since 2000, writes the publication, which includes $65 million the couple gave in 2015 to the Dalio Foundation. The foundation supports K-12 education, the environment and medical research.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy studied donors from across the United States to come up with a list of who has given the most per state.

"To compile this list, The Chronicle took a deep dive into its Philanthropy 50 data going back to 2000," wrote author Maria Di Mento. "We also used information about donations made public over the past decade that appear in our online gifts database, and other Chronicle coverage of wealthy donors."

Combined, the top donors of all 50 states and the District of Columbia gave a combined $84.7 billion to charities during the period.
