Re-Elect Tina Courpas as State Rep in the 149th District

I have known Tina Courpas for over a decade. I strongly encourage all residents of the 149^th district to support her re-election as our State Representative.

Tina Courpas is one of a vanishing breed of politician—she is a brilliant, energetic and thoughtful leader who cares deeply about the future of our state and understands the longer-term implications of policy decisions made by elected officials. A Columbia Law School grad who worked at a top-tier law firm, Tina has the experience and intellectual chops to craft, analyze, negotiate and understand the impact of legislation.

Tina is a savvy realist, but she is not a cynic. The daughter of Greek immigrants—Tina speaks fluent Greek and attends Greek Orthodox church—she believes strongly that our political system can effect positive change in people’s lives. She has wanted to be an elected representative since she was a little girl.

Tina has a tireless work ethic. She voted in 100% of the 316 roll-call votes held during her term, including one vote cast when she was seriously injured, and had to take an Uber from her home in Glenville to Harford to vote during a nighttime session.

Tina is also highly principled. She has delivered on her promises to advocate powerfully for fiscal responsibility, local control, excellence in education, and reasonable policing. She is a moderate legislator with strong relationships across the aisle, co-sponsoring Democrat-led environmental bills.

Tina’s re-election is critically important for the longer-term economic viability of our state. Connecticut’s rankings in this regard are dismal: among the 50 states, CT has the third-highest tax burden and the third-worst overall business climate, due to its high taxes and excessive red tape. CT is also the 2^nd most indebted state, primarily due to its public employee retirement obligations, which are growing and remain sorely underfunded.

Because Democrats have a supermajority in the Legislature and our Governor is a Democrat, the extremism risk in Connecticut comes entirely from the Left. To keep CT a fiscally stable, socially moderate state, Tina’s intelligence and fact-based pragmatism is now needed more than ever.
