GREENWICH, CT — After more than a week since Election Day and after recounts in three different municipalities, incumbent Republican state Sen. Ryan Fazio has won reelection over Democratic challenger Trevor Crow in the 36th State Senate District race.

The district covers all of Greenwich and portions of Stamford and New Canaan. After the election, Fazio led by 96 votes, according to unofficial results, and a recount was triggered.

Last week, Greenwich completed its recount and Fazio's vote total went from 12,928 to 12,936. Crow's total went from 12,463 to 12,461.

On Monday New Canaan held its recount at town hall, and Fazio's vote count increased to 4,113 from 4,111. Crow's total was revised to 3,303, down from 3,305.

Stamford conducted its recount on Wednesday at the Stamford Government Center. According to the head moderator's report, Fazio finished with a total of 4,420 votes — an increase of eight. Crow's final total was 5,602, up from 5,585.

Fazio released a statement on Wednesday night after the Stamford recount concluded.

"Thank you to the voters of Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan for putting your trust in me to serve you again. Representing my home district is the honor of a lifetime, and I feel more energized than ever to get to work for another term. I will work hard every day to represent every resident of our district faithfully and make our district and state a better place," Fazio said.

"I believe that this district is the best place in the best state in the best country. We have good people, a strong community, and every other advantage imaginable. In spite of this, our state faces immense challenges—from our economy to local control to public safety and beyond—largely because of failures of state policy," Fazio added. "We need positive leadership to make our state the best and easiest place to work, raise a family, and retire. I will continue to work tirelessly to help make that vision a reality."

Fazio thanked the volunteers who helped with the recount.

"Without you, our time-tested democratic process could not work," he said.

Crow posted a message to Facebook Wednesday night after the results were finalized.

"Given our narrow defeat, we see our hard work, dedication, and message resonated with the voters of Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan. Voters showed they care about women’s reproductive rights, safe gun laws, and business growth for our state," Crow said.

"My team's dedication, hard work, and commitment never wavered. I am proud of our collective effort and focus on a clear, kind, and human message. We care about women, families, equality, diversity, and inclusion," she added. "We want our children to attend school without the fear of being killed in their classrooms, and we want women to continue to have the right to choose what they want to do with their bodies. We want our government to work for us and to keep us safe."

Crow also thanked the poll workers, volunteers and registrars of voters for their work throughout the past nine days.

This will be Fazio's first full term up in Hartford. He won in a special election in August 2021 after Democrat Alex Kasser suddenly resigned earlier that year.
