Repairs To Begin at Greenwich Town Hall

Sidewalks and curbs will be repaired and handicapped parking changes are to begin next week.

Work to replace the sidewalks and curbs leading to Greenwich Town Hall are scheduled to begin next week — a multi-phased project that’s estimated to about $500,000.

The town’s Chief Engineer James Michel updated the Board of Selectmen on the project at the board’s Sept. 18 meeting. The project also will include realignment of some handicap accessible parking spaces and the creation of more spaces on the deck of the town hall parking garage, Michel said.

“We’ll be replacing all sidewalks in front of the building, making repairs to some of the stairway, on both parking garage side as well as employee entrance. The sidewalks are worn. We’re going to be doing the work in pieces so we don’t have to close down entire front of the building or side of the building,” Michel explained.

Part of the project will include eliminating the two handicapped parking slots on the north side of town hall in order to create a more direct ramped walkway for the handicapped. Currently, those needing wheelchair access to town hall have to leave the parking spaces, head to the Field Point Road sidewalk in front of town hall to the front walkway and then head to the building.

On Thursday, there were several more handicapped parking slots on the parking garage top deck. The entire front row as well as one side slot are now designated for handicapped accessibility, as seen in the accompanying photo.

Weather permitting, the work should be completed in November.
